Photo: Barr Building Washington DC

Image
Barr Building in Wash DC this past Friday, along 17th Street facing "Damn the Torpedoes" Farragut Park. The Barr bldg's "English Gothic" architecture is called a "Rebuke to the boring borax banality of the computer-designed structures on either side" in the AIA guide to DC Architecture. I worked in the Barr Building as a Law Firm messenger decades ago. The building was then in the midst of a massive updating. Recently I had a website design client who had offices at the Barr Building, and I was told that down in the cavernous basement there are still "dog-sized" rats running free. They were smaller in my day there.
