All that's left here is the brick facade and the rusted marque sign. Judging from satellite shots of the street, the roof either fell in or burned off. So this is a brick shell.

The Eastern Box Turtle: It has an incredible range, well past the Mississippi River and as far north as northern Michigan - - that means it can endure some pretty icey conditions. Can live to over a hundred years. This fellow was found in my back yard. Considering there are 6 outdoor cats patrolling the premises, that makes for a fairly sneaky turtle.

Swan out on the wetland near Henricus, off the James River. The area was once part of the main body of the James River, but became separated from the main channel and is now kept more or less pristine as a reserve in the shadow of the large dominion power plant that dominates the area. Thousands of ducks winter in the area.
