The English garden at the Poe Museum in Richmond VA

The Poe Museum in Richmond VA is a complex of old Virginia brick buildings, but the main house is a stone structure considered to be the oldest building in Richmond. The museum has a scale model of Richmond at the time of Poe's lifetime and it's a unique way to get a sense of what Richmond Was (and has become). The museum grounds are extraordinary.

The area was once part of the main body of the James River, but became separated from the main channel and is now kept more or less pristine as a reserve in the shadow of the large dominion power plant that dominates the area. Thousands of ducks winter in the area.
